The Greek word agapos, referred to as agape love, is used to describe the love that is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself: God does not merely love; He is love. Everything God does flows from His love. And this kind of love is extremely unique and special in many ways.
God’s love is unconditional. It has no bounds or limitations. We are and can never be restricted from His love because everything He has done, everything He has created (including you and me) was done out of love for us. So no matter how many times we mess up, fall short or even run away from Him, He still extends His love towards us. Always ready for us to just accept it.
For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 AMP
God expresses his love for us through the very life that we are given. He arranged the stars, created the sun and moon, aligned the molecules of the very air that we breathe out of love for us. He created this earthly home for us, just so that we may have life. Before we were even born, He had us in mind. He created us with His eternal purpose in mind and so that we can experience His ever lasting love.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 AMP
The ultimately expression of God’s love is through His Son Jesus. After the fall of man into sin and death, God sent His son as a Savior to redeem us back to Him. One of the most popular Sunday School verses illustrates the power of His sacrfice for us.
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [a]only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16 AMP
For God so loves. Because He loves, you and I are here today. Because He loves, we have the opportunity to experience life and live it in abundance. Because He loves, we don’t have to live in fear or shame or guilt of our past mistakes. Because He loves, we can live loved.
